How To: Turn Your Bathroom Into A Spa Sanctuary

While we love the opportunity to relax and unwind at home, we also love the Zen we feel while lounging in our favorite spa and being pampered from head to toe. If you’re missing your spa experience these days, or just need a few moments to escape, we have some simple tips to help you turn any bathroom into your very own private spa sanctuary.

Tip #1 – Stash Your Stuff

Before you settle into your DIY spa treatments, be sure to take a few minutes to prepare your space. Remove any clutter from your countertops, shower and bathtub. Hide your hairdryer, mouth rinse, makeup brushes, or anything else that attracts your eye under your sink or in a closed cabinet. Having a simple, minimal view will help boost relaxation. Clean your surfaces and set out your best towels and robes. A pretty basket to hold washcloths or small towels is always a nice touch!

Tip #2 – Set the Mood

There are some small things you can add to your bathroom that will really help to give it a spa-like feel, and you probably already have some at home:

Bring the outdoors in by adding small plants to your bathroom. A plant can help to cleanse the air and the greenery will set a peaceful mood. Even a faux plant will complement the look!

Spas love using candles to get that gentle glow and we love the feelings of warmth and comfort they add to any space. Lighting even just one small candle can really help to set a peaceful scene. If you have a scented one that you love, even better!

Music is really key to setting the mood for relaxation. If you don’t have a spa playlist you love, you can log onto Spotify or Pandora and search for spa sounds or relaxation music. If that’s not ideal for you try gentle classical music, or white noise to drown out daily household sounds.

Tip #3 – Just Add Water

The word “Spa” is actually an acronym for the Latin “Sanus Per Aquam”, which roughly translates to “health from water”. Water is not only cleansing, but extremely soothing to the body and mind. Adding water to whatever DIY spa treatment you’re doing will improve overall relaxation and calm a busy mind. Taking a leisurely bath or shower is great, but you can also add steam to your DIY facial, soak your tired feet in a scented foot bath, apply a warm, damp towel to your scalp during your hair mask, or just listen to the gentle sounds of beach waves on your iPhone.

Now you’re all set – relax and enjoy your private spa sanctuary!
